THE MOST IMPORTANT RULES WHEN CREATING YOUR SCRIPT

  1. Learn About Script Structure - Do some research and see how the create a plan to structure your acts. Know you're ending so you can unconsciously work towards it.
  2. Research Your Genre - See how successful films in your genre have been put together by reading the scripts. This will also help you see any story techniques the writer has used to make an on screen impact
  3. Raise The Stakes - Think about how each scene progresses to the climactic point in your second act. Each scene and character needs to have a reason for being there. Do not use unnecessary characters.
  4. Condense - When you have finished each scene read back through it and see if you can condense any information. Maybe those four lines of dialogue can be summed up in two. Maybe that action description could be more to the point. Think about the attention span of the audience and the commissioner reading your script.
  5. Avoid ' On The Nose' Dialogue - Show an audience don't tell them and especially don't be too obvious when revealing story points. Keep the audience guessing.
